Recently, a story surfaced about a man named Sam, and it’s one that could happen to anyone.
It was a hot afternoon, and Sam was at work, casually scrolling through his phone, when he received a WhatsApp message that read:
"Hello, sir, my name is Jerry. We need you to verify your email address. You applied for a loan with us some time ago."
Right after that message, they sent him a link and asked him to click and complete his loan application.
He clicked, and it redirected him to a website that looked like a loan application portal. At first, it didn’t seem suspicious. After all, Sam had recently explored several loan apps, testing out different platforms and dropping off at various stages. So, the message felt familiar, maybe it was one of the online loan apps he had used?

But then, something felt off.
Sam paused and asked in the chat,
"Can you remind me when exactly I applied?"
They claimed it was two weeks back. But Sam was no rookie. He quickly searched for the company's official customer support number and gave them a call.
To his surprise, they told him:
"You have no records with us."
Sam didn’t wait. He reported the incident immediately. And thanks to that quick action, no harm was done. Let’s just say, Sam – 1, Scammers – 0 💪🏽

So if you care about staying safe, grab a drink and stick with us over the next few weeks to keep you updated on what these scammers are up to.
And here’s what you can learn from Sam.
Always verify before you click. Scammers often pretend to be from trusted companies and pressure you to take quick action. If anything feels off, it probably is.
Use official apps or secure, encrypted, and verified websites to manage your loans or finances. Also, check for online reviews and scam alerts.
If someone contacts you out of the blue about a loan, always ask for details. If they can't provide clear answers, that’s your signal to stop.
Report suspicious activity to the FCCPC, EFCC, CBN or relevant law enforcement authority.
